Houston we have lift off! Late strike edges Harps closer to safety!

first_imgSean Houston has enjoyed a superb season since returning to Finn Harps at the start of this Premier Division campaign, and it was his strike that ensured Harps claimed a priceless point! Houston netted two goals on Friday night against Bray, that gave Harps their first win in the league since July, but it edged them eight points ahead of Wexford Youths.Tonight, Liam Buckley’s St Patrick’s Athletic side were in Finn Park, and as the gave ticked deep into injury-time, it looked like ‘The Saints’ would take all three points back to Dublin. Mark Timlin struck just past the hour mark, and it looked like the Buncrana man was going to be the difference between the sides. But Houston had other ideas, the powerful former Bray and Derry City player rifled home a brilliant effort to send Finn Park into raptures. The only blow for Harps, was a nasty looking injury to Keith Cowan – who had to be stretchered off.Harps are now nine clear of Wexford with three games to play, while Wexford have four fixtures remaining. That injury-time goal from Houston could may be the crucial point that ensures Harps play Premier Division football next season. It’s been a great week for Harps, a point away to Sligo has been followed with four points from two home games against Bray and St Pat’s respectively.Fantastic stuff.Houston we have lift off!
