Starbucks ramps up Fairtrade commitment

first_imgStarbucks USA plans to double its purchase of Fairtrade Certified coffee to 40 million pounds in 2009. This is part of a new initiative between Starbucks, Transfair USA and Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO) to support small-scale coffee farmers and would make Starbucks the largest purchaser of Fairtrade Certified coffee in the world.“We strongly believe that by working together, Starbucks and the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International can accomplish so much more for coffee farmers and the coffee industry,” said Howard Schultz, Starbucks chairman, president and chief executive officer. “By doubling our commitment to Fairtrade Certified and scaling up our global partnership, we have a unique opportunity to further reinforce our ongoing efforts to benefit farmers and communities.”Starbucks also aims to expand its work with Fairtrade farmers, by leveraging Starbucks Farmer Support Centres in Costa Rica and Africa, as well as current investments in programmes that provide farmers access to credit. Macy’s to furlough most of workers

first_imgMacy’s has announced that it is being forced to furlough most of it’s employees due to the coronavirus keeping it’s brick- and- mortar stores closed.The store made the announcement Monday stating that the brick-and-mortar stores accounted for the majority of it’s business and now they are being forced to implement several changes to bolster their bottomline.Next week, the company which also owns Bloomingdales and Bluemercury , will begin the process of furloughing many of it’s over 120,000 employees.While the workers are being furloughed, the company says it still plans to pay health benefits and cover 100% of employee premiums at least through May.They will also be keeping some of their employees to assist them in their e-commerce operations,  distribution and call centers.last_img read more

first_img22 Sep 2019 England storm to impressive Under 16 victory against Wales JACK INGHAM led the way with a clean sweep of points as England claimed the scalp of Wales in this weekend’s Under 16 challenge match.Ingham – who is based in the Dutch city of Eindhoven – won a foursomes and his two singles matches as England claimed a resounding 13-7 victory after two days of competition at Newport GC.England won all three sessions – the 5-3 victory in the Sunday singles following up 5.5-2.5 success in the Saturday singles and a 2.5-1.5 win in the foursomes.Although, Ingham blazed a trail with a 100% points tally, every single member of the side contributed at least a point to highlight a real team effort over the weekend.Hertfordshire’s Jack Bigham and Dubai-based Josh Hill also ended the weekend undefeated with 2.5 points apiece.With the team – coached and managed by Rob Watts and Stephen Burnett – needing just two and a half points from the eight singles matches to secure the victory, Reis Suart put the first on the board with a thumping 7&6 win against Coalan Burford.Ingham’s 4&3 win against Dylan Thomas took England to the brink of victory – none of his three games over the weekend going beyond the 15th hole.Bigham guaranteed the win beating Connor Owen by one hole and the icing on the cake was provided when there were further singles successes for Hill and Hugh Adams.England’s next test at this age level will be a combined girls/boys event against Ireland on October 12-13 at Hunstanton GC.last_img read more
